Adelaide, Jan 24: Centuries from skipper Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting took Australia to a mammoth 335 for three in the first innings at stumps on the first day of the fourth and the final cricket Test against India at the Adelaide Oval here Tuesday.

Ponting was batting on 137 and Clarke on 140. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two for 81 while Zaheer Khan bagged one for 52. The Australian pair, R. Ponting (137*) and M. Clarke ( 140*), hammered the Indian bowlers on Monday as the home side dominated the first day of the Test match.

Earlier, India had commenced the day strongly by picking up three quick wickets. Z Khan gave the first blow to the hosts as he picked up the wicket of D Warner (8). Ashwin joined the party by taking the wickets of both S Marsh (3) and E Cowan (30).

Australian scorecard looked quite uncomfortable at that point with the hosts reduced to 84 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Ponting and Clarke pulled back Australia from that point and helped the home side finish the day on a higher note. Both have added 251 runs in the fourth wicket partnership so far.

The Indian bowlers struggled to pick up the wickets of Australia and the visitors looked helpless at the end of the first day. Stand-in captain V Sehwag himself bowled several overs in the match but failed to disturb the Australian pair. Australia have already regained the Border Gavaskar Trophy by winning the first three Test match of the series.
