Sydney, Feb 1: India will need to score 172 runs in 20 overs to win the first T20 match against Australia. To chase the run now India's score is 71 runs with loss of 5 wickets in 12 overs.

Riding on a quick-fire knock of 72 runs by M Wade, Australia posted a competitive 171 runs for the loss of four wickets against India in the first T20 match, here on Wednesday.

India won the toss and elected to field first in the game but Australian batsmen gave a good start to the home side.

Opener D Warner gave the home side a good start and scored 25 runs from 14 deliveries before V Kumar picked up his wicket.

Ashwin dismissed T Birt (17) and gave India another crucial wicket. However, Wade continued to hammer the Indian bowlers and helped Australia dominate the match.

Rain stopped the proceedings as Australia scored 131 runs for the loss of two wickets after 14.4 overs in the match. The home side lost the wicket of Wade after the match resumed. Wade was dismissed by Raina who bowled quite well in this match.

He has hit 5 boundaries and 3 six in the match. D Hussey played a crucial knock of 42 runs from 30 deliveries before young Indian leg-spinner R Sharma picked up his wicket. Skipper G Bailey (12*) and M Marsh (0*) remained unbeaten at the end of 20 overs.
