Rules cannot be changed: Srinivasan

Chennai, Feb 13: The Indian cricket board on Monday said that it was not possible to change the Indian Premier League (IPL) rules to help Pune Warriors franchise owner Sahara India.

Board president N.Srinivasan, however, said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was willing to walk an extra mile and address Sahara's issues in the sponsorship deal.

Srinivasan said Sahara India will show positive response to the board's proposal of offloading its stake to partner.

"We hope that Sahara will show favorable response to our proposal," said Srinivasan.

Srinivasan, however, maintained that the BCCI has no objections if Sahara gets a replacement player for Yuvraj Singh in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League.

Srinivasan said that the onus is now on Sahra to continue as the ownership of Pune Warriors and sponsorship of Team India is now on Sahara Group.

"BCCI has responded positively within the framework of its rule. It is not possible to create an exception because observation of the regulations is important for the integrity of the league." Srinivasan said.

"Issues that were raised by Sahara were placed before the working committee today and without going into the specifics of the decision taken during the meeting, I would say that the issues are private and would not like to discuss them in public. We have communicated them to Sahara and are waiting for their response," said Srinivasan adding that the board has no issue if Sahara wants to bring in new partner.

The Sahara Group had last Saturday abruptly pulled the plug on its contract as the official sponsor of the Indian cricket team after the Indian board rejected their demand for a replacement of cancer-hit Yuvraj Singh in Pune Warriors.

Srinivasan also ruled out any inquiry into the performance of India team in Australia.
