Will continue playing Test: Ponting
IBNS

Sydney, Feb 21: Former Australian skipper and cricket icon Ricky Ponting on Tuesday said that he no more expects to play One Day International (ODI) cricket for Australia but will continue to play Test for the national side.

Ponting's announcement came a day after he was dropped from the ODI squad for the next two matches of the ongoing CB series that also feature India and Sri Lanka.

"I don't expect to play one-day cricket for Australia anymore and I'm sure the selectors don't expect to pick me either," Ponting said. However, the World Cup winning captain said that he will 'continue playing Test cricket."

Ponting was axed probably for his poor form in the ongoing series. He scored just 18 runs from five innings at an average of 3.6. He failed with his willow even in the match against India on Sunday. He scored 7 runs by facing 26 deliveries.

Head Selector John Inverarity reportedly said that Ponting has been axed from the ODI squad with an aim to build a strong team for the 2015 World Cup.

Ponting has played 375 ODI matches for Australia and scored 13704 runs at an average of 42.03 in his career that spanned for around 17 years. Australia won two World Cup under his captaincy in 2003 and 2007.
