What can you do with Bengali compose text editor?
You can write in Bengali script, Roman script, or in combined Bengali-Roman scripts.

Understanding the Bengali compose text editor

Bengali composetext editor is set to compose in Bengali (which includes composing in Bengali-Roman combined script). If you wish to write in Roman script, simply write within angled brackets.

The compose text editor has two sections for composing:
The smaller left section is the Typing Section, where you type in Roman script (in ‘banglish’).
The larger right section, is the Display Section, where the Bengali script shows up.

The page provides information under various heads to aid composing. For Netscape users they appear in one scrollable section. Click a link on the black bar to get to that information.

Tips: General helpful instructions and typical examples.

Address panel: Where you write the addresses.
Bangla Barnamala: Character map of Bengali alphabets.
Detailed Tutorial: Comprehensive help for composing in Bengali (here’s where you are!).

  Learning to compose in Bengali

Bangla Mail is so easy, that you do not need to know Bengali keying to write in Bengali script. Type in Roman script as you would pronounce the Bengali word.
For e.g. you type:
amal
tumi
aamaar
tomaar
The display is
Ajm
a¥¢j
Bj¡l
®a¡j¡l

IMPORTANT: Try writing the word Llm. You'll find that you would need to type - karala. That is because the text editor does not recognize the nuances of Bangla pronunciation where, sometimes vowels are hidden. Actually when we pronounce Llm, we are hiding the A l and m The same applies for Qmm hmm etc. It's just a matter of practice before you start typing such words intuitively.

NOTE:
It doesn't matter if you ignore the 'a' at the end of the word while writing in 'Banglish'.

Tip: As you type, sometimes the text editor needs prompting for display. Press ARROW keys to prompt display
