New York, Aug 11 (UNI) Former Central Bureau of Investigation director Joginder Singh has said terrorism has spread to all parts of the world and only a united action will root out the dreaded menace.
''No country is immune to terror,'' he told a Hindu community meeting last evening while delivering the keynote address at the Ganesh temple auditorium here.
''It is an invisible one and you cannot quantify it,'' he said.
Mr Singh, who is now a retired IPS officer, said terrorism affects the security systems of all nations. He added that more than half of India's districts were affected by security problems like the Naxalite issue.
''Terrorism, narcotics and counterfeit currency proliferation need to be checked through a coordinated action by various agencies,'' the former Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau told the gathering.
''No terrorist could be convinced through negotiations. You have to give him the same medicine,'' he added.
Corruption is one major issue plaguing the country, he said, and pointed out to a survey that put India as the 73rd most corrupt nation.
Former union law minister Dr Subramanian Swamy, currently president of the Janata Party, also addressed the meeting. He described Mr Singh as the ''most honest'' director of the CBI.
The meeting was organised to mark the 14th Hindu Sanghathan Diwas (unity day) in New York by local Hindus. The day is observed to commemorate Chhatrapati Shivaji’s coronation.
Indian American Intellectuals Forum president Narain Kataria and Ganesh temple president Uma Mysorekar were the main organisers of the meeting.
Dr Swamy, who was present as the chief guest at the function, predicted that the future of Hinduism would be bright.
