Global Meet on Ayurveda in Coimbatore from August 21

Bangalore, Jul 25 (UNI) A four-day Global Convention and Expo on Ayurveda, focussing on Geriatrics, Metabolic Disorders and Nutrition, to mark the centenary of Arya Vaidya Pharmacy Founder P V Rama Varier will be held in Coimbatore from August 21.

Briefing newspersons here, Convention Organising Committee Chairman Dr G Gangadharan said the deliberations would stress the relevance of Ayurveda in addressing critical areas of health care.

The highlight of the convention would be participation of practitioners of modern medicine and researchers along with experts of Ayurveda. More than 110 scholars from India and abroad would take part in the convention and over 3,000 delegations, including 300 from foreign countries, would attend various sessions.

He said pacts would be entered into between India and the US to take up three research programmes on the efficacy of Ayurveda, after the convention. Three national centres for Geriatrics in Jaipur, Metabolic disorder in New Delhi and for Nutrition in either Hyderabad or Coimbatore would also be set up.

To a question, Mr Gangadharan said talks were also on with the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) to create industry platform for promotion of healthcare products in Ayurveda. A vision document on Ayurveda with a global perspective would also be prepared after the convention, he added.
