SEOUL, Jul 23 (Reuters) Five South Korean kidnapped by gangters in Mexico this week have been released, a South Korean Foreign Ministry official said today.
''(We can) confirm that five South Koreans were safely released at 9 am Korean time (0530 IST),'' a ministry official told reporters.
The five were taken captive on Monday in Reynosa, a city bordering the United States, the official said, and would soon be handed over to South Korean authorities.
The five, which included a woman, worked in the used car trade and were in Mexico on business, local media reported, citing diplomatic sources. The gangsters had demanded $30,000 in ransom.
