Child actors in India are all wonderfully talented: Rahul Bose

New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) Last year he shared screen space with a sprightly child actor Zain Khan in 'Chain Kuli Ki Main Kuli'.

As he gets set to appear in the same frame as another talented child actor Purav Bhandare in Santosh Sivan's 'Tahaan, A child With a Grenade', a film shot in the backdrop of Kashmir valley, Rahul Bose is all praise for the prodigious talent of child actors in the Mumbai film industry.

''We in India are extremely fortunate to have such talented child actors as Zain Khan, Purav Bhandare and Darsheel Safari. They are all wonderfully talented actors. All of them have a lot of knowledge of camera angles and are totally spontaneous in their performance,'' Rahul said.

Talking to UNI in an interview during a visit to the national capital to promote ''Tahaan-A child with a Grenade'', which features child actor Purav Bhandare in the lead with actors Anupam Kher, Sarika, Rahul Bose, Victor Banerjee and Rahul Khanna playing supporting roles, Rahul Bose said, ''the good thing about working with children is that working with two different children is not really different. This is because children do not exhibit their personality, their temperament and tantrums on the sets.

They come, sit on the sets quietly, give their shot and then again become quiet. Never in my life have I seen a kid make a lot of commotion or noise on the sets. And, they are very well behaved on the sets. Perhaps, they are trained or disciplined by their parents or teachers,'' he added.

Speaking about his experience of working with two different children in 'Chain Kuli' and 'Tahaan..', the actor said,' ''Both Zain Khan, with whom I worked in 'Chain Kuli..' and 'Purav Bhandare in 'Tahaan’ are talented kids, have professionalism and the ability to work hard. When it is time for their studies, they study and when its time for their film shoot, they report for the shoot. Further, they are very modest and have no starry airs about them.'' And, they are just real people like you and me. Infact, working with children is really easy as you do not have to please them.'' Talking about 'Tahaan-a Boy With A Grenade', a fable-like journey of an eponymous eight-year-old boy whose life revolves around the pursuit to find real purpose in his little world, Rahul said, ''Tahaan is the story of a little boy whose best friend is neither his mother nor his grandfather but a donkey called Birbal. One day, all of a sudden, his grandfather passes away and the moneylender takes away all their belongings as his grandfather owed him a huge loan. Along with his other belongings, Birbal is also taken away by the moneylender. Waking up one morning, Tahaan finds that Birbal is no longer with him. It is at this point that the film starts, Tahaan in search of a donkey.

''It is in course of his search for his donkey that all the characters like me, Sarika and others appear in cameos,'' Rahul added.

Describing 'Tahaan-A Boy..' as a ''children's film for adults'', Rahul said, ''I would say that 'Tahaan' is a children's film for all ages. Because while the story of a child in search of his donkey who will not give up till he gets his donkey back will be loved by children, beneath the surface it is a serious story imbued with a feeling of humanism which is synonymous with a classic in line with Satyajit Ray's films and world quality cinema which is sure to be liked by adults.

Infact, 'Tahaan-A Child with a Grenade’ is like one of those films we have been seeing in Iran for the last ten to 20 years. At the outset, these films are simple stories based on lives of children but lying underneath the simple story is deep philosophy that has a spirit of humanism about it that give you some food for thought.'' On his role in the film, the actor said,' my role in 'Tahaan' is a very small one. I play Zafar, a completely brainless Kashmiri peasant who, whenever he sees girls, gets sexually harassed. Every village has a guy who is completely dumb and has a vacant brain which perfectly describes the character I play. There is absolutely no growth in my character. Infact, it is an injection of comedy.''
