Railways earns 17.64 per cent more revenue during April-Sept 08

New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) The Railways registered an approximate earnings of Rs 38,374.20 crore on originating basis between April 1 and September 30, this year, registering an increase of about 17.64 per cent over the corresponding earnings of Rs 32,620.94 crore during the period last year.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 21,751.41 crore during 1st April-30th September, 2007 to Rs 26,141.99 crore during 1st April-30th September, 2008, an increase of 20.19 per cent.

The total passenger revenue earnings during the first six months of the financial year 2008-09 was Rs 10,766.08 crore compared to Rs 9,510.21 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 13.21 per cent, an official spokesman said.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 955.64 crore during April-September 2008, an increase of 5.73 per cent over the last years earning during the said period.

The total sundry earnings have gone up from Rs 455.49 crore during April-September 2007 to Rs 510.49 crore during April-September 2008, an increase of 12.07 per cent.

A total lof 3,537.06 million passengers were booked during April-September 2008 compared to 3,306.76 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6.96 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-September 2008 was 1,882.18 million and 1,654.88 million compared to 1,807.65 million and 1,499.11 million during the same period last year, an increase of 4.12 per cent and 10.39 per cent respectively.
